Vintage charm sweep me off of my feet...

Thanks to everyone for making my small business Saturday a success. (Internet orders are packed and ready to mail on Monday.) My friend Maria stopped by with these amazing vintage charms, so we worked together to create this fab necklace. I hated to let it out of my sight. If anyone has a source for these charms I'd trade a couple of eye teeth or a small West Highland terrier...

Lemon lime earrings, music to my ears...

I'm loving these lemony glass earrings with Herkimer diamond quartz chunks. They've got me singing 'Lola, L-O-L-A Lola" for some reason.

And these I call 'candy discs.' My favorites are lime flavored... too pretty too eat.  All earrings pictured are sterling silver and priced at $50, a good deal in light of silver prices!

Think of me on Small Business Saturday, November 24th! Holiday show coming up soon... I'm thinking the weekend of December 1st. (I'll keep you posted.) If you need gifts before then, feel free to email me for an appointment.  Since my pieces are 'one of a kinds'  (and since I am my own I.T. guy), it's impossible to keep current photos up and linked to the shopping cart. Just email me with price range, item type, and colors and I can email you photos and prices. Don't forget I ship!

What's in your pockets?

These new pieces feel like jewelry collages. I love sitting at my bench and seeing what bits and pieces fall together. That is how I got the idea of tucking the vintage shell into  brass filligree.  I think of these as 'Natural history of your great aunt's necklace.' A little vintage, stones, minerals, glass, shells, animals, pre-industrial age steampunk. In the 1850's I would put on this necklace to set off my long black/purple tafetta dress with a bustle and my button top boots,  then check on my husband in his chemistry lab with all those glass tubes and bubbling liquids.

Birdie day spa and mother-of-the-bride...

I felt like Snow White today. I almost have the wild birds ready to eat out of my hand. They circle around, buzz me, and chirp at me angrily. I sat very still holding sunflower seeds and they eventually settled down . I looked up in the trees and I was in the middle of a circle that included wrens, cardinals, nuthatch, finches, chickadees, and  titmice. It was like they were holding a tribal council. I think I passed.

I made my mother-of-the bride necklace last night. I wanted something airy and neutral in color.

Almost finished with the trees so it looks like I might be able to come home early!

Birds of a feather...

Last night's birthday happy hour was so fun. I spent today making even more pieces for tomorrow's cake and coffee. I was thinking of calling this necklace "Migration" but keep recollecting when Heather was about 3 years old and we were trying to decide where to eat lunch. My mother was in town for a visit and she said: "We'll put the burden on daddy." After more deliberation about our restaurant options,  Heather offered: "I want to go to the place with the bird on daddy."

Flipping a coin...

I've been intrigued with making coins lately, my own little alchemy going on. I like this version of combining my copper clay coins with my glass versions. The bead chain runs through the glass centers and can be adjusted to create different looks depending on which coin you tug on the hardest!  Kinetic, gotta love it. See more images on my etsy site.

More vintage reworking...

While I'm on the subject of incorporating precious keepsakes, my mom gave me a brooch she purchased in Paris when we lived there back in the early sixties. This Christmas, I de-and-reconstructed it into this necklace. She continues to get over the top compliments and I think it has become her favorite of my pieces. I would happily give anyone a consultation if you are interested in making something old something new. Click here to contact me to schedule an appointment.
